About

The Better Yew Foundation aims to address mental health in an engaging and innovative manner through personal storytelling and hands-on workshops supported by surf therapy.

We aim to open up the conversation around mental health amongst young people and empower individuals to own their lives, specifically their mental wellbeing.

Founder and CEO of Better Yew Foundation

Hi, I’m Gabby an ocean lover and the founder of the ‘Better Yew Foundation’. I created this organisation to address the alarming rates of suicide and mental illness in young people which has left me feeling extremely frustrated.

I am sick of hearing of suicides in our local and broader community especially in people so young. Working as a sports coach I have interacted with thousands of kids and each day I see more and more kids with low-self esteem, behavioural issues and anxiety.

Growing up I have faced a lot of tough situations which challenged me mentally but they made me grow and I now view them as a gift. Through my experiences I have learnt that I am not perfect but I am capable and I am in control of who I become. I recognise the value of resilience through responsibility, empathy and gratitude as key foundational principles to achieving mental wellness and I aim to share these lessons with as many young people and their surrounding support networks as possible.

I want young adults to realise their responsibility in the direction of their own lives and take control of not only how they feel but who they become.
